So lets think about this a little, an Orca is a predator with teeth...

There’s never been a confirmed attack from a wild orca.

That just proves that there have never been survivors.

Regardless, they obviously don’t generally see people as food, though they would be quite dangerous if they did (or just made a mistake).

Serious question: Why do we think that is? Is it because humans generally appear too bon y with not enough flesh and blubber to be tasty and worth eating?

Your link reinforces what I said. Only captive whales are confirmed to have attacked people.

Except for the wild ones. Unless you consider those unconfirmed? Including they guy who went to the hospital with an Orca bite? Human interactions with wild Orcas are pretty limited, and generally in places with not a lot of people, so if you are requiring video confirmation or something, of course your not going to find much, especially considering that negative interactions are exceedingly rare .

Animals don’t like eating weird stuff. There’s both some sort of evolutionary measure there, and especially in the case of a fairly intelligent species like Orcas, a learned component (many Orcas are actually quite picky about what they eat, specializing in different foods and hunting techniques , and it’s still unclear if that indicates some sort of sub- speciation, or a learned group-dynamic). In any event, trying to hunt or kill an unknown animal carries the risk that it has defenses (natural like poison, teeth, or claws, and unnatural like guns, etc.). So there’s a natural wariness built in to avoid those potential and unknown risks unless the animal is desperate . In the case of something like man-eating tigers, when they are tracked down and killed, they are almost always found to have sustained some injury that decreased their hunting ability and forced them to take risks a healthy tiger wouldn’t bother with.
Humans are probably nutritious enough to be worth Orca’s time, they eat plenty of fish and birds where the bones to meat ratio is much worse. “ Playing” them in the wild is probably not a good thing either, in that it decreases whatever concern they might have about us. This dynamic exists with plenty of land mammals, and I don’t see much reason it would apply to Orcas either.

Kretschmer i s the only bite victim, and it seems reasonable to assume he was mistaken for a seal. All of the other “ attacks” were indirect at best.
I’m just saying that I’d feel safer swimming with orcas than driving on a busy highway.

Yeah, good point about the unfamiliar/poisonous thing. The weird ‘shroom that I saw in the hills can now rest easy knowing that I’m not interested in eating it.

Yeah, that seems likely (I would assume the other attacks were also probably mistakes as well). But of course we still call it a shark attack when a shark mistakes someone for a seal.
Anyway, r egardless of the actual count, it’s pretty clear that Orcas are not a significant risk.

Sharks have been known to attack surfers. They think it’s because surfers look like sea lions from underneath.
I’m guessing that kneeboarders look similar.
Ergo, it’s probably not a good idea to look like a sea lion while orca are around.

The cool thing
about this video is the wale appears to be playful with the guy in the water, when he took off on the rope I thought the wale might want to play a bit more.

That’s the beauty of it. Maybe we have, maybe we haven’t. Maybe they eat children, maybe they are a fictional character passed down through lore and cave drawings . Maybe I’m just a weird crazy guy that talks to my shoe. The world is full of crazy strange stuff.

B ig foot does not exist:
1. T here is no archeological evidence, we have evidence of saber tooth tigers but not big foot.
2. They exist only in my th and legend like dragons and unicorns.
3. We have found numerous externally rare land based animals and have never found big foot.
4. I should get back to work.
